THE MYSTERIOUS TIBET & THE YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE

Visit Beijing, Xian, Wuhan, shashi, Yangtze River Cruise, Chongqing, Dazu, Lhasa, Guilin & Shanghai ( 20 Days)

The water level of the mighty Yangtze River will be raised up to 135 meters above the sea level from July 1st 2003 and will keep on the same level to the end of 2006 while the present water level is 75 meters during the flood season. A spectacular Gorge-shaped huge reservoir from Sandouping to Fendu of 400 km will be formed up, whereas the natural scenery of the Yangtze River will not be changed much as the cliffs and the rock mountains along the river are several hundreds or even a thousand meters in height. The splendid Three Gorges will take a new look and will become grander and prettier in the near future.

Day 1 Tue. Arrival in Beijing Capital Hotel or Similar
Upon arrival at the Beijing Capital Airport, passengers on this tour will be met and greeted by our attentive local guide, and then transfer to the centrally located hotel. The rest of the day will be at your own disposal for either relax or taking a walk.

Day 2 Wed. Beijing
Full day sightseeing to visit the famous Tiananmen Square, the largest one in the world, then visit the splendid Imperial Palace, well known as the "Forbidden City" where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties lived and conducted the state affairs for over 500 years. After lunch, visit the enchanting Summer Palace, the best-preserved imperial garden served as summer resort in Qing dynasty. In the evening, a delicious Peking Duck banquet is arranged for you as a welcome party. (BLD)

Day 3 Thu. Beijing
The highlight today is to visit the awesome Great Wall, the symbol of China's ancient civilization with a history of over 2000 years. Afterwards, we stop by the Sacred Road to see 24 marvelous stone sculptures of animals and guards, that leads to the Ming dynasty's tomb area, then visit the third Ming emperor's Tomb - Changling with its commemorating palace. In the evening, a fascinating Peking Opera show is available after dinner. (BLD)

Day 4 Fri. Beijing
This morning, we take an interesting tour of Hutong with a ride on pedicab to visit the old Beijing"s courtyards and call on the local homes. Later on, take a visit to the well-preserved Lamasery - Yonghegong, about 70 monks live and maintain the daily service there. After lunch, visit The Temple of Heaven, the most famous ancient architecture in China, uniquely built in 1420 for the emperors to worship heaven and pray for good harvest. (BLD)

Day 5 Sat. Beijing / Xian Purple Mountain Hotel or Similar
Fly to the ancient city Xian in the morning. Take a visit to the famed Bell Tower at the city center and tour the well-known Provincial Museum that lots of unique historical relics are on display. A special Dinner Show is arranged at the Tang Dynasty Palace in the evening. (BLD)

Day 6 Sun. Xian
The highlight today is to visit the extraordinary archeological discovery - the 6000 life-sized Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses buried over 2000 years for the first emperor of the Qin dynasty, and then stop at the Banpo Museum - the original place where the ancient people lived in the matrilineal society over 6000 years ago. Later on, visit the newly restored City Wall and the famous historical site - The Big Wild Goose Pagoda. (BLD)

Day 7 Mon. Xian / Wuhan / Shashi On board of M.S. Yangtze Angel
Today, we take the early morning flight to Wuhan, and visit the marvelous Yellow Crane Tower, the symbol of Wuhan and then the Provincial Museum where you can enjoy the magic ancient music played with the Jade Chimes excavated from the tomb of 2400 years ago. After lunch, we take the ride for 3 hours to Shashi and embark on the best riverboat Ms. Yangtze Angel. The magnificent cruising starts at 20:00 and the natural scenery is more beautiful now after the water level has been raised up for over 60 meters than before. (BLD)

Day 8 Tue. Yangtze River Cruising On board (BLD)
06:00 In the early morning, Yangtze Angel will pass the first ship-lock Gezhou Dam for 1 hour.
10:00 - 12:00 Pass the newly built ship-lock with 5 steps over the huge Three Gorges Dam, which takes about 2.5 hours and you will experience the greatness of the world largest Dam and the gigantic hydro-power station.
14:00 - 17:00 The boat sailing enters the fascinating Xiling Gorge and Wu Gorge.

Day 9 Wed. Yangtze River Cruising On board (BLD)
08:30 - 13:00 Take an excursion on the small boats to visit the famous Lesser Three Gorges and enjoy the natural beauty. Later on, sailing through the magnificent Qutang Gorge.

Day 10 Thu Yangtze River Cruising On board (BLD)
08:00 - 11:00 Take ashore visit at Wanxian County, where you may walk around the local market and visit the textile factory and the local kindergarten, then continue sailing upstream.

Day 11 Fri Chongqing / Dazu Kinglead Hotel
At 9:00 in the morning, the Yangtze Angel will arrive in Chongqing, the largest city in China with both the governed area and population. Disembark the vessel and take coach ride via highway for 2.5 hours to visit Dazu, one of the most famous rock carvings of Buddha in grottoes on the huge mountain ranges since the Tang dynasty over 1300 years. We'll drive back to the central located 5 star hotel before 6pm. (BLD)

Day 12 Sat Chongqing / Lhasa Tibet Hotel or similar
Check out the hotel in the morning and take a visit to the well-known Museum of General Joseph W. Stilwell and the 17 painters village. After lunch, take the flight to Lhasa, known as the world rooftop of 3800 meters above sea level. The rest of the day will be free for you to take rest and get used to the highland weather and the altitude. (BLD)


Day 13 Sun. Lhasa

This morning, we take a visit to the grand and mysterious Potala Palace, the real symbol of Tibet and the highest castle in the world. After lunch, visit the famous Sera Monastery, built in 1419, used as treasure house to keep the Buddhist sutras with a typical style of Tibetan architecture. Afterwards, go to visit once the Dalai Lama's Summer Palace - Norbulingkha Park. Dinner will be at the hotel. (BLD)

Day 14 Mon. Lhasa
Today, we go to visit another famous Buddhist collection - Drepung Monastery that was once the world largest monastery with a total of 10,000 monks lived inside. After lunch in a local restaurant, take visit to a Tibetan hospital to see the traditional medicine and visit the Jokhang Temple that is followed by an interesting walk along the city's busiest shopping street - Barkhore Street Bazaar where you may have some shopping time for nice souvenirs. Day 15 Tue. Lhasa / Chengdu / Guilin Park Hotel or similar

Take the morning flight to Chengdu. After lunch, we take an unforgettable visit to the Giant Panda breeding center, where about 25 active pandas will amuse you with a lot of fun. Later on, we tour around the local food market to know more of people's daily life. At 20:40, we'll fly to Guilin, the most beautiful city in China.

Day 16 Wed Guilin
An exciting tour today is the cruising on the picturesque Li River, which stretches 83 kilometers with the steep and misty hill range along the riverbanks. The cruise takes over 4 hours and stop in Yangshuo, a charming little town with an unparalleled beauty of landscape. With a short visit in Yangshuo, we then take the ride for 1.5 hour to Guilin. In the evening, a minority ethnic dance performance is available. (BLD)

Day 17 Thu Guilin / Shanghai Broadway Mansion or similar
Today, we'll take visit to the famous Reed Flute Cave, the uniquely formed limestone creature with somewhere as large as the soccer field, and then visit the Elephant Trunk Hill, the symbol of Guilin before heading to the airport for the flight to Shanghai, the largest and fast developing coastal city of China. A fantastic Acrobatic Show is arranged this evening. (BLD)

Day 18 Fri. Shanghai
Sightseeing today includes the visit of the Jade Buddha Temple, and Yu Garden, a uniquely built private garden in the Qing dynasty, adjacent the famous old market Chenghuangmiao, and crowded with souvenir shops and local snack restaurants. After lunch, go to visit the marvelous Shanghai Museum, one of the best arts and historical museum in China. We may take a stroll on The Bund, the symbol of Shanghai or the famous shopping street - Nanjing Road. (BLD)

Day 19 Sat. Shanghai / Suzhou / Shanghai
A full day excursion to Suzhou by coach is another delighted experience for your visit in China. The city on the Grand Canal is well known for its many uniquely built gardens of Ming and Qing dynasties. We'll visit the Humble Administrator's Garden and the National Embroidery Institute. Boating on the canal and a visit at the silk factory is arranged before we ride back to Shanghai. A farewell dinner will be arranged in the evening to highlight our China trip. (BLD)

Day 20 Sun. Shanghai / Return home flight
This morning is at leisure and check out before noon. Our guide will come to meet you at the hotel lobby and help arrange transfers to the airport for your return home flight. (B)
