CHINA DISCOVERY (12 days, Train & Coach Tour)

Visit Beijing, Pingyao, Taiyuan, Mt. Wutai, Datong & Beijing

Day 1 Arrival in Beijing Capital Hotel or Similar
Upon arrival at the Beijing airport, passengers on this tour will be met and greeted by our attentive local guide, and then transfer to the centrally located hotel. The rest of the day will be at your own disposal for either relax or taking a walk.

Day 2 Beijing
Full day sightseeing is planned to visit the world largest Tiananmen Square, then the splendid Imperial Palace, well known as the "Forbidden City" where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties lived and conducted the state affairs for over 500 years. After lunch, visit the enchanting Summer Palace, the best-preserved imperial garden served as summer resort in Qing dynasty. In the evening, a delicious Peking Duck dinner is arranged. (BLD)

Day 3 Beijing
The highlight today is to visit the awesome Great Wall, the symbol of China's ancient civilization with a history of over 2000 years. Afterwards, stop by the Sacred Road to see 24 marvelous stone sculptures of animals and guards and visit the third Ming emperor's Tomb - Changling. In the evening, a famous Peking Opera show is planned. (BLD)

Day 4 Beijing / Pingyao On board of soft berth train
This morning, we take an interesting tour of Hutong with a ride on pedicab to visit the old Beijing"s courtyards and call on the local homes. Later on, go to visit the well-preserved Lamasery - Yonghegong. After lunch, visit The Temple of Heaven, the most famous ancient architecture in China. Tonight, we take the overnight train with soft berth to Pingyao. (BLD)

Day 5 Arrival in Pingyao Dejuyuan Folk Inn
Arrive at 7:38am in Pingyao, the well-preserved ancient town and check into the specially arranged folk Inn for breakfast. Afterwards, take a ride to visit the "First House of the Chinese Folk Residence" - Wang's Family Courtyards, uniquely built in early Qing dynasty, covering area of 150,000 square meters with 54 courtyards and 1,052 chambers. The typical design and the art of workmanship is the priceless treasure for China's folk architecture. Later on, visit the nearby Zishou Temple, Shuanglin Temple and the City Wall of Pingyao. (BLD)

Day 6 Pingyao / Taiyuan Shanxi Grand Hotel
Today, we pay a visit in town to the nation's earliest bank Rishengchang, set up in Qing dynasty and famed for its powerful banking system and management, especially in northern China. Then enjoy a leisure walk along the Ming-Qing Street Market, still prosperous with large variety of arts and handicrafts. After lunch, we drive to Taiyuan, the capital city, en route visit the ancient Zhenguo Temple and a renowned folk residence Qiao's Family Courtyards.(BLD)

Day 7 Taiyuan / Mt. Wutai Yinhai Hotel

In the morning, we have a tour to the city's well-known park, Jinci Temple, built in early Song dynasty and then visit the Double Pagodas Temple, the symbol of Taiyuan, as each of the pagoda is 55 meters high with 13 stories that built entirely of bricks to resemble the famous Wooden Pagoda at Yingxian county which we'll visit on the way to Tatong. After lunch, we take a coach ride for about 3 hours to the Buddhist holy Mountain Mt. Wutai. (BLD)

Day 8 Mt. Wutai Yinhai Hotel
Mt. Wutai, known for its awesome natural scenery, is one of the four sacred mountains in ancient China for the Buddhism believers. There are five principal mountain peaks with the highest at 3058 meters and a flat top linked the peaks where many temples were built since the early Han dynasty about 2000 years ago. The hotel is built on the flat top where we start visit with the Dailuo Peak, the Pusa Peak, the Pagoda Temple, Xiantong Temple and the Ten-thousand Buddha Pavilion. About 40 temples survived out of 200 built in the early times.

Day 9 Mt. Wutai / Datong Hongan Int'l Grand Hotel
Today, we take a full time excursion to Datong. En route, we stop to visit the spectacular Hanging Monastery, built extremely on sheer cliffs of Mt. Hengshan above Jinlong Canyon with a history of 1400 years, which was reconstructed in Ming and Qing dynasties. Afterwards, we pass by Yingxian country to visit another fantastic masterpiece of the ancient architecture - Wooden Pagoda, built without a single nail in 11 century with the height of 97 meters. Day 10 Datong / Beijing On board of Train
With a population of one million, Datong is one of the major industrial cities in northern part of Shanxi Province and also the home of steam locomotives. A special museum built in the city is popular to the locomotive lovers. The highlight today is to visit Yungang Grottoes, one of the three most famous Grottoes in China and then the visit of Huayan Monastery as well as the Nine Dragons Screen. In late evening, we take the train with soft berth to Beijing. (BLD)

Day 11 Beijing Capital Hotel or similar
Arrive in Beijing at 6:22am and check into hotel for breakfast. The rest of the day will be free for you to get relax or take further exploration on your own. A farewell dinner will be arranged in the evening to highlight our China trip. (B.D)

Day 12 Beijing / Return Home
Today, we'll check out the hotel in the morning and transfer to the airport for your return home flight or the connection of your further trip. (B)
